Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if this is the right fit for me?
Finding the right therapist is an essential part of the healing process, and it’s completely normal to take some time to figure out if this is the right fit for you. Pay attention to how you feel during and after sessions—do you feel heard, understood, and supported? Do you have a sense of comfort and trust growing over time? It’s okay if this doesn’t happen immediately; building rapport can take a few sessions.
It’s also important that my expertise aligns with your needs. If, at any point, we determine that another approach or provider might better support your goals, I’ll be happy to help connect you with the right resources. Most importantly, you should feel like this is a good fit for you. My priority is that you receive the care that feels most helpful and effective for you.
How long will I be in therapy?
The length of therapy is tailored to your unique needs and goals. While some people find meaningful progress within a few months, others benefit from longer-term support to deepen their growth and healing.
What’s the difference between a “specialized consultation” service and an “assessment”?
A specialized consultation in psychotherapy provides an opportunity to gain insight and guidance from a professional with expertise in a particular area of mental health. This may include supporting families or loved ones of someone with a substance use disorder, helping them understand the condition, navigate challenges, and explore ways to offer meaningful support.
An assessment appointment, on the other hand, is a collaborative first step in therapy, where we explore your concerns, strengths, and goals to develop a personalized treatment plan. While a consultation offers expert guidance on a specific issue, an assessment focuses on understanding your unique needs to shape a path forward in therapy.
